Whenever we grade something in our heads we have a set of criteria we think the assignment needs to meet and when this criteria is written out in a weighted format it is called a rubric. Rubrics allow teachers to grade each student on a consist ant basis because the student's success is determined by the level they meet. This is also a great way to allow students and parents to see why the student received the grade they did on a specific assignment or project.
